At 18 I enrolled in a music program intending to be a jazz saxophonist but after a year I was so fed up with the negative attitude that I left. The joy that I found in playing and listening was sort of lost, and I couldn't even touch my saxophone again until the spring of this year (I'm now 23). I had the opportunity to play music (rock and jazz) with people who I regard as brothers and sisters now in Beijing, China and my excitement returned. I'm not great (it's been a while). I'm improving again. But I love doing it.

I wanted to tell you that you are a big inspiration for me in how I play: both in ability and in the character and the attitude that I hear behind the saxophone. I hear authenticity and care in your music that reveals a pure joy and excitement about music even after 50+ years, and that that's what I really listen for and play to now that I've returned to music.

I just moved out to Seattle. I don't have a lot of extra money lying around for practice space and I can't play in my apartment but I didn't fail to notice a bridge nearby. I just wanted to thank you for your musical contributions over the years and for your changing but lasting influence on my own musical career.
