The first time I heard Sonny live was particularly memorable. it was at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1971. Walter Davis, Jr. was on piano, Masuo on guitar, I forget the others.

I'd be listening to Sonny and digging him on records (remember those?), for a while.

Hearing him life was a revelation. The energy, the spirit, the musicality, it was just incredible.

One of those things you never forget.
